BAR. A little more difficult to handle today.

Anesthetized with iso via mask. Still has the bradycardia but maybe not as bad as previous sessions. This is about the 6th bandage change and the socket looks alot worse. We have been using honey the last few times and that clearly hasn't helped. Much of the socket surface is raw with alot of white cheesy debris. It also bled alot more today and there are some raw patched just under the lip of the socket that were not there before.

Given that this bird will not tolerate anesthesia for any length of time, we are out of options and I highly recommend euthanasia as this cannot be managed long term. I emailed Jean C regarding my recommendation.

Coped beak - looks alot better now.

BAR. Packing intact.

Anesthetized quickly with iso via mask. The socket is very clean. There is a wedge about 40% of still raw area. But it looks better. Maybe the honey helped. Flushed and redressed with honey, duoderm and packed with sterile gauze.

Sitting in box.

Anesthetized lightly with iso via mask. HR went from 210 to very slow again very quickly.
Gauze in place and clean. The raw patch seems a bit larger now. Very clean but maybe 30% wedge. There was some wet exudate near the rim of the socket. Flushed. Nothing to debride.
Not improved and raw patch may be larger.
Tried organic honey + duoderm and packed with gauze again.
Prognosis is not great.

BAR. NOLO

Anesthetized with iso via mask. Same situation with immediate bradycardia and this time had some arrhythmia as well. Worked fast. Socket/wound mostly unchanged. Still a raw wound at the back. There was some cheesy debris as well. Flushed and debrided. Dressed with duoderm + sterile gauze. No SSD as I want to see if the debris was real or just SSD.

BAR but stressed. All LO - still not eating. Head tilt present.
Weight is down a good bit. Has not eaten since the procedure last week.

Attemptedt anesthetize again but has some problem with bradycardia (HR 75 BMP) immediately and could not even get deep enough to intubate. Worked quickly. Socket very clean. Flushed eye. About 70% has healthy skin. 30% wedge dorsal is rough and not epitheilialized. Dressed wound with SSD + duoderm and packed with 1/4 of a 2x2 gauze.

Perched. Head tilt to right. NOLO
Pretty difficult to handle.

Anesthetized with iso via mask to examine eye. Intubated with 3.0 mm ET tube.
Torb 0.15 ml IM
LRS 30 ml SQ
Did not have much time. Became apneic and bradycardic (about 60 BPM) almost immediately.
The socket was partially filled with necrotic debris and inflammatory exudate.
I was able to clean out the socket and flush it well. There is healthy skin covering about 80% of the inner surface. There is an open, bleeding wound at the very back. Dressed with SSD and packed with gauze. Had to rush so didn't have time for anything else

Recovery was quick.
Note feathers are in poor condition and upper beak is overgrown and somewhat deformed. We coped it to start to reshape but it will take some work over time.

Food in cage: 29 g m
Sulfatrim 0.7 ml

Plan: this bird is a major surgical risk but I think we can just manage this wound with very short sessions.
----------- ORDER CHANGE -------------
Switch to BID.
Start Sulfatrim.

I am definitely concerned about this bird's quality of life and the husbandry practices.
