BAR. Standing well.
Enclosure was filthy with old leftovers, maggots and beetles.
Cleaned enclosure. Removed 414 g LO's

Anesthetized with iso via mask for rad. Rad is better than previous but I was hoping for a bit
more callus on medial side. Small, smooth bridged callus laterally but still a dark gap on medial side. Fx is stable.
The IM pin is exposed and the exit point is a bit bloody.
Removed pin. Cleaned exit and dressed with BNP + telfa + tega.
Placed padded splint over TBT with 2 metal sidebars. Note: the TMT is a bit edematous near hock so I slit the lower end of the splint to prevent rubbing.

Bird is trying perch on edge so will place perch today.

Food: 190 g cutup furless + 207 g cut open rat (+ vit + Ca)

Note: we examined bird carefully for any stray maggots and could not find any.
Left chest was soiled from laying in old food. Cleaned chest with water as best as we could. Overall, he is very clean and feathers are in good condition.

BAR. Mostly NOLO

Anesthetized with iso via a mask for rad. Rad shows good alignment and pin placement althouth the bone has lengthened and the implant is not spanning across the fx as far as it did. There is some callus but not as much as I would like so did not remove implant (10 days since surgery).
Regurged a large amount at this time. Cleaned out mouth but could not use ANE for the rest of the treatment. He struggled alot when cleaning pin and replacing splint so it is not as nice I would have liked. Pin was clean and dry. Cleaned with betadine and applied BNP + tegaderm. Placed padded splint + vetwrap + metal side bars. Stuggling alot so had hard time keeping the actual pin exit point covered. Did not replace foam shoe.
Note: right digit 3 was very flaccid but it seemed to get stiffer once the shoe was off. Also left digit 3 was not terribly different. Will need to watch to make sure not knuckling.

Food: 219 g cutup furless + 203 g cut open rat (+ vit + Ca)

Plan: re-check rad next week

BAR. Down in donut. Crop is empty although it still feels puffy as if filled with air.

Anesthetized with iso via mask for rad. VD shows simple, midshaft transverse fx of right TBT. Wrist areas are hard to evaluate given bird's age and quality of rads but the left wrist palpates normally and I don't see anything unusual.

MOVED TO: Kennel in R4 with adult
Food in cage: 100 g cutup, FL rat.

Note will move to R35 with adult tomorrow.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - tibiotarsus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 11 minutes

Sterile prep. Medial approach over the point where the bone ends
are most easily palpable. Found ends easily. Significant skin
thickening and scarring already but able to mobilize ends easily.
Placed IM pin from fx and exited at the stifle. Removed distal
trocar tip, aligned the ends and drove distally. The IM canal
was pretty narrow as is typical in this age, so I used a larger
IM pin and decided against and external fixator. Flushed wound.
Closed skin with 4-0 vicryl.
Applied BNP to suture line and pin exit. Covered both with tega.
Cut pin off and bent over twice laterally. Placed padded splint
with a metal sidebar reinforcer.
Placed foam shoe. Recovery was quick and ANE was easy.

BAR. Very full crop so kept vertical and did quick exam.
Very downy still with all flight feathers in blood. Very clean.
Left leg, right wing WNL.
Closed, midshaft fx of right TBT.
Left wing may be a bit droopy and left wrist felt a bit odd but hard to tell for sure.
Will need to evaluate it tomorrow.

Torb 0.2 ml IM
Meloxi 0.1 ml IM
LRS 35 ml SQ
Placed padded splint with metal sidebars on leg. Could not get very proximal towards the knee so splint may not work well.
Will try to repair it tomorrow.

Note: assuming a weight of around 1000 grams. Also he is still young enough to be an imprint risk but I think we can repair it quickly and get him paired with an adult.
