Surgery report Procedure - Fracture repair - humerus Performed by - des Surgery time - 24 minutes Dorsal approach. Made incision over an area of bone that was projecting at an odd angle under the skin. It was part of the pectoral crest. I had to dissect thru a bit of the romboid m. to get to the fracture. Found the distal end easily. It was a long olbique. The part of the pectoral crest was very immobile so it appeared to be continuous with the proximal end but I was very worried that it wasn't and it was impossible to palpate any more proximal. Flushed wound and drove proximally. Removed the distal trocar tip, aligned the ends after reducing a substantial overlap. Drove distally. Fx felt very stable. Closed the incision in two layers. No way to place prox cross pin so I placed a distal one about midshaft. I could palpate the typical landmarks easily to set the rotation. Bent the pins and created a sidebar with VTP. Applied BNP to the pins and the suture line. Covered the suture line with tega and took him down for rad. As I had feared, the bone fragment that I drove the pin into was an intermediate piece and the alignment is way off. It does not look good but I figured we might was well give it a try since it is done and the bird is eating well. Prognosis is poor.
