BAR. Standing. Flat foot on both sides. Bearing weight on right but definitley favoring it.
NOLO. Both feet look good.
Regurgitated when grabbed.

Anesthetized with iso via mask for rad. Both sides look good. Smooth, remodelling callus. Definite curvature on right but that is not new. No sign of lysis around pins.
Fractures are very stable. Removed all implants in both legs. All pins very tight.
Covered IM pin holes with BNP and tega. Covered other pin holes with vetwrap.
Pulled blood for recheck lead - CBC pending
Recovery was quick.

Lead did not rebound as much as I expected. No chelation at this time.

Plan: cage rest.

BAR. NOLO. Standing pretty well on both feet.
Regurged when grabbed.
Right shoe is not compressed much at all.
Vetwrap was pretty tattered.
VD view shows continued healing. Left leg looks great.
Right leg has a bit of a curvature but that is not new. The callus is better but not as mature and there is still alot of soft tissue swelling. Good ROM at all joints.
Cleaned all pins (they were mostly clean and dry).
Applied BNP and recovered with vetwrap.
Did NOT replace foam shoes.

Will need to watch for knuckling and replace shoes if needed. Looked ok when returned to kennel.

----------- ORDER CHANGE -------------

BAR. NOLO - just skin. Standing well and very mobile. Very hard to grab and control.
Shoe foam compressed mostly evenly.

Anesthetized with iso via xx mask. VD view shows good callus at each fx. Left leg looks great.
Right leg looks good but slight curvature. Not new - present on last rad.
Cleaned all pins. Applied BNP. Covered fixation with vetwrap and replaced foam shoes.
Removed tail wrap - very worn out. Did not replace since she is standing well.
Removed tongue depressors from primaries. I think they worked well.
Pulled blood - CBC pending. Lead is way down.

Quick recovery.

BAR. On keel with head up.
Note: both distal legs/feet/wraps are very poopy. Vent is dirty but not bad.
Definitely producting mutes.

Cleaned and reinforced splint on right leg.
Taped tongue depressors to the outer primaries to help stiffen them since she is using her wings alot to move. Not sure if this will help but it might.

Returned to condo on thick clean towels.
Food in cage; 100 g FL - started eating right away.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - tibiotarsus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 22 minutes

Medial approach. Actually a bit hard to access bone ends as the
alignment was very good and the fx was only bendable but not
unstable. Drove IM pin proximally with a blind stick as I couldn't
actually see the bone end. Exited at stifle. Removed distal tip.
Drove across fx. Distal fragment < 20 mm but it was stable
and straight. Flushed wound. Closed with 4-0 vicryl.
Placed 4 cross pins - 2 above and 2 below. All very solid. Applied
BNP to pins and suture line. Suture line very short so no tegaderm.
Bent pins and created sidebars with VTP. Covered with vetwrap
and placed a foam shoe.
Again, she was rock-solid during ANE and recovery was smooth.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - tibiotarsus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 26 minutes

Very unstable. The distal end is ALOT shorter than it appeared
on the rad. Made incision over original wound and extended 1
cm on either side. The proximal end is jagged oblique with a
large loose fragment. The distal end is very short. Only about
1 cm and I am not sure it is an intact bone column. Very hard
to tell. Flushed wound. Drive IM pin from fx and exited at knee.
Removed distal tip, aligned the ends and drove distally. Could
only get about 1 cm into distal end. Stability is not great.
Flushed wound and closed with 4-0 vicryl. Pretty swollen so there
is some tension on the sutures. Drove one small cross pin distal
to fx. Did not feel there was was room for another. Drove 2 cross
pins proximally. Set rotatation, bent pins and created sidebars
with VTP. New VTP, did not work like previous stuff but I think
it worked out ok. Fx is stable but since we only have one cross
pin in distal fragment, we added a foam shoe with an external
coathanger that is connected to the sidebars. This nicely locked
the hock joint at a comfortable angle. Bird did very well under
aneshtesia. Recovery was quick.
