Surgery report Procedure - Fracture repair - ulna and radius Performed by - des Surgery time - 17 minutes Small wound on vental side. Spike of dead bone (1mm) from the distal end of the ulna thru the skin on the dorsal side. No bruising. Very scarred and bone ends pretty immobile. Made incision around the exposed radius end. Removed non-viable tip with ronguers. I was able to carefully dissect to exposed both proximal ends and the distal radius end. Many tendons in this areas and the scarring was severe so decided to NOT go for the ulna. I leveraged the radius ends against each other to re-establish length. Placed IM pin in radius, drove distally and exited at wrist. The pin was a little big - probably should have used a slightly smaller diameter... Aligned ands and drove pin proximally after removing the proximal end. Alignment very good. Flushed and closed skin with 4-0 vicryl. My hope is that the ulna ends are now close enough to bridge. Applied BNP to pins and suture line. Covered suture line with tega. Bent the pin back and padded end. Dressed ventral wound with SSD and tega. Placed a fig-8. Recovery was quick.
