Surgery report Procedure - Fracture repair - ulna and radius Performed by - des Surgery time - 29 minutes Plucked both sides. Wound on ventral side with distal ulna exposed slightly. Cleaned and flushed ventral. Extended large dorsal wound slightly for better exposure. Bone ends clean and fresh. Many exposed tendons but clean and fresh. Had some trouble finding the prox radius end. Placed IM pin in radius. Drove distally, removed prox trocar end, aligned the ends and drove proximally. Ulna IM pin was tricky. First attempt slipped off but second attempt went well. Drove to fx, removed trocar tip. Did not have my large pin cutters sterile so used the small ones and could only remove the very tip. Aligned ends and drove about 1 cm distally. Alignment and stability was very good. Flushed wound and closed skin with 4-0 vicryl. Some tension across suture line but not bad. Distal ulna fragment too short for a cross pin. Drove on cross pin midshaft to use to anchor the IM pins. Applied BNP to pin and suture line. Covered suture line with tegaderm. Bent pins and created sidebar with VTP. Dressed ventral wound with SSD + telfa and placed a fig-8 + body wrap. Bird did well under ANE but HR was slow the entire time (around 120-130 BPM). Recovery was a bit slow but uneventful. Overall, the procedure went well.
