Surgery report
Procedure - Digit amputation
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 9 minutes

Sterile prep. Used radiosurgical unit and blunt dissection to
disarticulate and remove the distal phalanx of digit 4. Removed
articular surface of P4, smoothed the end, flushed and pulled
the plantar skin up dorsally before suturing into place with
4-0 vicryl. Infused lidocaine over stump before closure. Dressed
with BNP + telfa + vetwrap and white tape. Procedure went well
but bird has marked arrhythmia almost from the very beginning
and it got progressively worse so we had to work fast. Overall
it went well and recovery was good.

BAR. NOLO

Anesthetized with iso via mask. Perfect ROM. No ANE needed anymore. Wound just a small scab.
Fx seems stable. Replaced velcro wrap.

Left digit 4 is knuckled under despite tape splint. The talon splint is starting to cause a little wound on the pad. Not a bad wound. I tipped the talon and created a tougher splint with more tape and a little piece of tongue depressor on the side. Hopefully that will work.

May need to do a distal amputation soon so it will heal by the time bird is ready for flight cage.
