Still favoring leg a bit but not bad.

Anesthetized with iso via mask. Removed fixation. Cross pins very loose.
IM pin was not terribly loose but was also a bit gunky when it came out.
No sign of inflammation, drainage, infection. Fx is very stable and feels like it has remodelled. Did not get a rad.

Lice - sprayed with Bronco.

I just realized that he didn't get his antibiotics this morning...

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - tibiotarsus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 36 minutes

Removed splint. Very unstable. Felt a distal fragment best on
the medial side. Used medial approach. Had to lengthen the incision
so almost 4 cm to get adequate access. The entire central 40%
was in many fragments both long blades and small fragments. Likelyy
substantial muscle damage. Flushed wound multiple times. Drove
IM pin from fx and exited at tibial plateau. Removed distal trocar
tip. Had to extend incision more distally in order to find an
intact bone column distally. Much more stable after IM pin placed.
Placed long blades of bone into position. Flushed wound and closed
in 2 layers with 4-0 vicryl. Placed a large cross pin proximal
to fracture. Placed cross pin distal to the fx. Tried to place
another one but I was worried about fissures so decided against
it. All implants very stable. Bent pins and created sidebars
with VTP while lege held in traction. I think we got the rotation
and overall length just about right.
Applied BNP to pins and incision. Covered incision with tegaderm.
Covered fixation with vetwrap. Placed foam shoe and also added
cast padding and some stiffening tape around the hock to provide
some further stability.
Bird did well under anesthesia and recovery was uneventful.

2018-11-14 09:03 des

Sternal in back. Foot is pointed forward. Some LO's but it looks like he may have eaten some.
Surgery later this morning.

Presented quiet but responsive; laying down. Blood seen on L leg and tibiotarsus fx palpated. Unable to move leg on his own; floppy.

Anesthetized with iso via mask. Administered 0.4cc Torb IM. Radiograph confirmed compound fx L tibiotarsus.

Continued anesthesia through treatments. Flushed L leg to find source of open wound; once found placed duoderm then tegaderm overtop. Proceeded to wrap L leg with wrap gauze from most caudal portion of tibiotarsus upwards; repeated this until sufficiently padded. Then wrapped with vetwrap in the same fashion, caudal to crainial and repeating until leg was further secured. Placed splints on lateral and dorsal portion of tibiotarsus. Secured with 1" tape and padded ends of splints. Placed shoe on L foot.

Forgot to get blood sample.

Administered 60 cc SQ fluids with 1.2cc enro and clinda SQ in bubble.
