Standing in donut. Fought us throughout treatment.

Heard noise coming from KR2, Found BLVU lying on chest with legs stretched out behind him, digit 3 with missing talon was bent backward. Seemed unable to right self and was flailing around. Placed donut in kennel with BLVU on it and elevated food. Had thrown some food around, not sure if BLVU had eatten any.

Standing in back of cage, QAR

2018-10-13 10:00 des

Had to rush when examining RIGHT foot. Like the left, no obvious visible entry wounds so impossible to remove any pellets. TMT does appear to be fractured as well. More distally. Potentially surgical but don't want to rush into another ANE with this bird. Placed a padded splint and incorporated a foam shoe and metal sidebars. It looked very stable and compact when done. Bird stood on both legs when returned to kennel.

----------- ORDER CHANGE -------------
Start clindamycin - 20 ml LRS SQ + 1.3 ml clinda SQ post-op.

Will feed ASAP. Hopefully we can not grab this evening.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - tarsometatarsus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 15 minutes

Surgical prep. Multiple, scabby lesions around the fx but cannot
actually identify any of the pellets. They will be impossible
to remove without doing alot of damage. Placed 2 cross pins above
and 2 below. Bent and created sidebars with VTP. Applied BNP
to pins, covered fixation with vetwrap and placed foam shoe.
Bird did not do well under ANE. Was either bradycardic or apneic
alternately and HR got very low right at the end while just on
oxygen. Had to rush. Gave atropine 1.3 ml IM which seemed to
help.

Left tarsometatarsus: closed fx, midshaft
Left foot, ankle, digits: ankle and toes all swollen
Right foot, ankle, digits: ankle and toes all swollen

Very BAR, standing in box. Both ankles and toes very swollen, 0.40 torb IM. Closed, midshaft tmt fx with small abrasion. Deep pain ++

Anesthetized with iso via mask at 2.5 % for rad. Rad reveals multiple MTB, especially in right foot. Right TMT seemed intact, consulted des..fragment missing in right tmt, right digit 3 is also fx. Amazingly enough no open wounds on right foot.

Cleaned and applied ssd, telfa, and tega on minor abrasion on L TMT. Applied cotton roll, vet wrap, foam shoe + stirrup splinted with two metal sidebars. Had to add additional noodle piece for middle toe. Added vet wrap and duct tape to R digit 3 for some stabilization.

Heart rate was stable under ANE but breath slowed significantly during recovery. Was about to administer dopram when bird finally awoke.

0.20 cc Meloxicam IM
1.30 cc Enro SQ
60 cc LRS SQ

Collected blood for lead, stored rest of sample in fridge.

Had already put bird up after lead results..will start CaEDTA in AM.
