BAR. Perched. Hissy. NOLO.

Anesthetized lightly with iso via mask for PT. ROM very good. Fixation solid. Suture line intact and pins are dry. Minimal swelling and brusing is already resolving.
There is a sharp bone spike protruding thru skin at distal end of suture line. Likely from the central, loose fragment that I did not get a chance to adequate deal with since the bird was not doing well under anesthesia. Cleaned area and clipped off sharp point. The rest is under the skin. Dressed with BNP + telfa + tega. Applied BNP top ins.
Did not replace wrap.

Surgery report
Procedure - Fracture repair - humerus
Performed by - des
Surgery time - 0 minutes

Cleaned wound on ventral side. Barely thru the skin. Packed with
betadine-soaked gauze.
Dorsal approach over fx. Found ends easily. Short oblique, clean
but with a few small fragments. Drove large IM pin from fx and
exited at the shoulder. Removed distal trocar tip and drove distally.
Discovered that the proximal end was segement with an longitudinal
gap along the ventral surface. The fragment was about 2 cm long
and was loose but still had large muscle attachments. Bird started
crashing at this point. Bradycardia, arrhythmia, apnea. Turned
ISO down to 1%, Dopram 0.6 ml IM x 2. Got the loose fragment
back in place. Flushed wound and sutured skin with 4-0 vicryl.
Bent IM pin, applied BNP to IM pin exit and suture line and placed
a fig-8 + body wrap quickly.
Took about 10 minutes of manually breathing for him to recover.
Once recovered, up on perch quickly.
Plan: finish ESF tie-in in a few days.

Ears: Baby flatflies in AU
Body
Body condition score: 2.5
Wings
Left wing: WNL
Right humerus: Right humerus fracture. Closed, but the ventral portion is slightly wet from bone poking the skin but hasn't fully broken through yet. Red bruising present.
Legs
Left leg: WNL
Right leg: #2, road rash at base of talon.
Ectoparasites: Tons of flatflies; bronco'd.

Radiograph under 3% iso via mask: Confirms midshaft simple humerus fracture.

Wound care under 2.5% iso via mask: No wound present, but the bone end rough; I'm a bit concerned it might eventually get through, especially since the area is already wet from it trying. Applied SSD/duoderm/tegaderm just in case. Applied figure-8 wrap with body wrap and chew tabs.

Somewhat slow but uneventful recovery. Placed in donut in KR2 to finish waking up.
